Mrs S. Porkodi
S. Porkodi was born to Mr Suriyamoorthi and Mrs Suriyagandhi, both teachers in Eriyur. She did her schooling in Eriyur, Alavakottai, and Tirupattur. She completed her M.Sc. and M.Ed., and is an alumna of The American College, Madurai, and Gandhigram University, Dindigul.
She has taught in CBSE schools, including Navodaya Vidyalayas, in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Maharashtra. She was Managing Director of Shakti’s Tutorial, coaching CBSE students for competitive examinations in Maharashtra — Science and Maths Olympiads, Maharashtra State Scholarship, NTSE, MTSE, and more. The centre became known as one of the leading coaching institutions in the city.
Porkodi has thirty years of experience coaching CBSE students. Many students of Shakti’s Tutorial went on to medical colleges including AIIMS, J.J. Medical College Mumbai, and KEM College.
Shri M. Lakshmanan
M. Lakshmanan was born in Mampatti, Tamil Nadu, to Mr Masilamani and Mrs Vairam. He was a hard-working student, drawn to mathematics from childhood. He took an M.Sc. and B.Ed., with a master’s in Mathematics, and is an alumnus of Annamalai University, Chidambaram.
He began as a Mathematics teacher with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in 1990. He became known as a mathematics teacher in the Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh regions, then as Principal of a Navodaya Vidyalaya in the Chandigarh and Pune regions, and later as Assistant Commissioner for School Administration at the Regional Office, Bhopal. His work was noted by colleagues and families throughout that career.
He founded School of Scholars in Alavakottai so children here could receive a CBSE education of genuine quality — the standard he knew from Navodaya Vidyalayas.
